You Helped Kill It

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Souter, on America, via John Venlet:

“The republic, Souter said, ‘can be lost, it is being lost, it is lost, if it is not understood.’”

Kelo was but a single empirical data point in your complicity, David. You never understood, and you never will.

Nothing New Under the Gun

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Mitch McConnell is concerned:

It certainly sets up the potential for the majority — if it chooses to — to run roughshod over the minority…

The tyranny of the majority was set in motion the day The Declaration died:

The important point here is to understand that we aren’t where we are because the past leaders and legislatures have failed to live up to the ideals of the Constitution, but that those who framed the Constitution failed to live up to the ideals of the Declaration of Independence.

The American Revolution in fact *died* with the ratification of the US Constitution.

That idiot McConnell can’t see past the nose on his face.

Fear-Monger Walters

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

John Walters, “drug czar”, was in Lansing, Michigan today to instill fear in the ignorant:

Walters said medical marijuana initiatives like the proposal before Michigan voters on Nov. 4 are the first step in “a clear strategy to … legalize drugs,” exploiting marijuana’s reputation as a less risky narcotic than cocaine and heroin

I heard a snippet of Walters speaking on the radio today. What’s missing from the article I linked is Walters’ equating marijuana use with using crack cocaine or meth-amphetamine, and claiming that medical marijuana users are simply trying to get intoxicated on marijuana.

Walters is trying to lump together all drugs to instill fear about a mostly harmless drug. That man is lying. Why trust anything he says?

Artificial Distinctions

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Richard Rahn at the Washington Times points out a despicable practice: the US government taxing its citizens who earn a living outside the US, but in the course of his article he reveals that he harbors a contradiction:

the U.S. Congress has just passed a law that places a higher tax burden (and in some cases wealth confiscation) on those who choose to permanently leave the United States,

Taxation is wealth confiscation. There is no difference. Wealth is property. Property confiscation is theft, no matter who, or what, perpetrates it.

Warriors

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

My comment, which I attempted to post, only to find that I’m still banned:

“For the warrior who has such a code, certain actions remain unthinkable, even in the most dire or extreme circumstances.”

Warriors aren’t just people who participate in wars and carry weapons.

Some warriors use mechanical weapons. Some use ideas. What makes a person a warrior is relentless pursuit of truth and integrity, despite opposition.

Hypocrisy and Cowardice

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

My comment (PDF), just now, at Q and O, which was immediately deleted:

“the demands of justice require it”

Where were the demands of justice when you hung Steven Rhett out to dry?

This is the second time since Monday that my comment has been deleted by someone at Q and O. My previous comment was also a reminder of Steven Rhett’s mistreatment at the hands of Dale Franks. McQ posted that blogging would be light due to everyone at Q and O enjoying spending Memorial Day with their families, and invited open discussion in the comments. I left a comment noting that Steven Rhett would have also liked to have spent Memorial Day with his family. I checked back a day or so later only to find the entire post deleted.

Franks cannot change what he did. Everyone makes mistakes, especially me, but to continue to attempt to conceal reminders of those mistakes is just plain cowardly.

Update: I attempted to leave a second comment:

This thread is about miscarriage of justice, isn’t it?

…after Franks advised me:

COMMENT BY MATT REMOVED

If you can?t stop the impulse to hijack the thread, then leave.

Or I?ll ban you. But thread hijacking ain?t gonna fly.

But I found that I’d already been banned:

You have attempted to enter a comment using a blacklisted term, or your IP Address has been banned. Your comment cannot be saved until the offending term has been eliminated, or the IP Address ban has been lifted by a blog administrator.

That’s a record for me, getting banned after only two comments to a blog. I must have struck a raw nerve.
